Titleholder Arellano, St. Benilde gain share of NCAA women's volleyball lead with San Sebastian

DEFENDING champion Arellano University beat Perpetual Help in four, while College of St. Benilde scored a straight-sets win over Lyceum on Tuesday to grab a share of the lead in the NCAA women’s volleyball competition at The Arena in San Juan City.

The Lady Chiefs turned back the Lady Altas, 25-17, 25-16, 21-25, 25-16, and the Lady Blazers routed the Lady Pirates, 25-15, 25-19, 25-14, to join idle San Sebastian Lady Stags on top with 3-0 win-loss records.

CJ Rosario had 12 hits, while Danna Henson and captain Rialen Sante contributed 11 each in as Arellano dealt Perpetual Help its second defeat against two triumphs.

"We're improving, that's the most important thing," said Arellano coach Obet Javier.

In men's play, last year's losing finalist St. Benilde trounced Lyceum, 25-20, 17-25, 25-22, 25-20, to join defending champion Emilio Aguinaldo on top with 3-0 cards.

Johnvic de Guzman had a match-high 21 hits, with 17 kills, Isaah Oneal Arda added 14 and Racmade Etrone chipped in with 11 for the Blazers.
