COLLEGE of St. Benilde head coach Jerry Yee is set to be barred by the NCAA from continuing his head-coaching duties in the ongoing Season 100 women’s volleyball tournament.
The league has sent a formal notice to the fourpeat-chasing Lady Blazers asking that Yee be relieved of his coaching duties in light of the NCAA reviving a rule restricting pro coaches and athletes from concurrent roles in the college league.

“The matter is still under review by the NCAA volleyball committee. We’ve exchanged correspondence with CSB regarding the specific rules and their applicability. It’s still in its early stages,” NCAA Management Committee (Mancom) chairman Hercules Callanta said.
Following Arellano’s 25-18, 25-12, 24-26, 25-17 defeat to Benilde on Thursday, its Mancom representative Peter Cayco sent an inquiry to the league on the rule regarding the functions of pro league coaches in NCAA teams.

Yee, also the head coach of PVL team ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles, called the shots in the Lady Blazers’ season-opening win, which prompted a review of the league’s restriction.
It is worth noting, however, that the Arellano men’s volleyball team was previously coached by Sherwin Meneses who was already at the helm for PVL Grand Slam winners Creamline Cool Smashers concurrent to his NCAA duties.
No action was taken on Meneses at the time before their eventual parting of ways last year.
There is an option for Yee to re-designate himself as Benilde’s assistant coach, just like what Capital1 Solar Spikers head coach Roger Gorayeb did with San Sebastian this season, or a different non-head coaching role within the team instead.
