    EAC takes No. 1 seeding, sets up semifinal showdown with San Beda in NCAA volleyball

    HOWARD Mojica led the way as defending champion Emilio Aguinaldo College defeated Perpetual Help, 21-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-19, on Tuesday in the playoff for the top seeding in the semifinals of the NCAA volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

    Mojica, the reigning Most Valuable Player, scored 30 points for the Generals earlier denied the Altas an elimination round sweep.

    Hariel Doguna added 11 markers, while Keith Melliza and Israel Encina scored 10 points apiece for EAC.

    John Patrick Ramos and Manuel Doliente scored 10 points each for the Altas, who lost skipper Bonjomar Castel’s in the second set due to a left foot sprain.

    San Beda College took the No. 4 spot in the semis after it defeated Arellano University, 25-22, 25-20, 22-25, 25-22.

    Mark Enciso scored 19 points to lead four other Red Spikers in double figures.

    Gerald Zabala added 13 markers, Alfie Macarinas and Yeshua Manliclic each scored 12, and Earl Gonzales delievered 10 points for the Red Spikers.

    San Beda faces EAC, which is armed with a twice-to-beat advantage, on Friday.

    Kenneth Aliyacyac scored 14 points, while Kevin Liberato and John Cabillan added 10 markers each for the Chiefs.

    In the juniors division, San Sebastian College took the last semis berth after it survived Lyceum of the Philippines, 25-16, 28-26, 20-25, 21-25, 15-11.

    San Sebastian clash with the defending champion and top-seeded Perpetual Help, which took the No. 1 spot with a 25-18, 27-25, 17-25, 25-13 win over EAC.
