SUMMER comes early for the NCAA as it holds the beach volleyball tournament at the Waterfront Boardwalk in Subic Bay next week from February 11 to 15.
For the third straight year, the country’s oldest collegiate league will host the outdoor competition away from the metro, the second time in the vacation destination in Olongapo City, Zambales (2013) after the event was held in Puerto Galera last season.
“We want to let the fans from the province experience the NCAA,” tournament chairman Fr. Vic Calvo, O.P. of host Letran said. “We want to widen the NCAA fan base and bring it closer to the people in experiencing high level of volleyball.”
San Sebastian seeks to defend its women’s crown, leaning on reigning indoor MVP and Best Scorer Gretchel Soltones, who teams up with new partner Nikka Dalisay, adjudged as the top rookie in the recently concluded tournament.
Johnvic de Guzman, on the other hand, leads the title-retention bid of College of St. Benilde in the men’s division, while Arellano tries to repeat its conquest in the juniors’ side.
The competition is in partnership with Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority – Tourism, Subic Bay Freeport Chamber of Commerce, Lighthouse Resort, Bayfront Hotel, Terrace Hotel, Mikasa, Victory Liner Inc., Smart Communication, Pau Liniment, Summit Drinking Water, Hawk Bag, LGR, Arellano Law School, Gerry’s Grill, ACME Inc., and Ocampo’s Appliances.
