    Nov 27, 2017
National University needed four sets to dispose of La Salle Lipa after winning all its previous matches in straight sets.

NAZARETH School of National University defeated La Salle Lipa, 25-23, 24-26, 25-14, 25-12, on Sunday to top the 18-and-under Rebisco Volleyball League tournament at the Sta. Rosa Multi-Purpose Sports Complex in Laguna.

Faith Nisperos and setter Joyme Cagande showed the way as the Lady Bullpups recovered from a slip to take a four-set win after breezing through all their matches in straight sets.

On its way to the championship, NSNU swept the Pool A elims, including title contender Hope Christian High School, then ripped host Holy Rosary College in the crossover semifinals of the event that featured 12 of the top high school squads in the country.

Nisperos was named tournament MVP, with teammates Ivy Lacsina and Alyssa Solomon copping the first Best Middle Blocker and first Best Outside Attacker trophies.

HCS’s Ethan Arce was awarded second Best Middle Blocker, and La Salle-Lipa’s Mary Bautista was second Best Outside Attacker. Alleiah Malaluan won the Best Opposite Attacker trophy, Janel Maraguinot was the Best Setter, and Reign Lumbera claimed the Best Libero award.

HRC wore down HCHS, 14-25, 25-22, 25-27, 25-19, 20-18, to salvage third place.

Trisha Mae Genesis atoned for a couple of lackluster outings with a 28-hit explosion, including a left-handed drop shot that sealed the win for the host squad in the tournament sponsored by Rebisco, organized by Metropolitan Sports and Events Group, Inc.and backed by Mikasa and Asics.
