PHILIPPINE Navy downed Far Eastern University in five nail-biting sets in a battle of cellar-dwellers in the Shakey’s V League Open Conference on Sunday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

The Lady Sailors seized the win 15-25, 25-23, 15-25, 25-23, 16-14 as they pounced on two sorry errors by FEU from a 14-14 standoff in the deciding set.

The Navy went ahead 13-10 in the decider but Angeline Tabaquero fired three consecutive hits to spark Far Eastern U’s six-to-two counter-attack to tie the match at 14.

“Para na akong aatakihin,” said Philippine Navy coach Nene Ybanez. “Di ko na inexpect na mananalo kami ngayon kasi kami, aminado naman ako, may edad na kami [samantalang] sila mga bata pa at saka last week lang kami na-intact talaga.

"Karamihan sa team namin galing pa sa service.”

Pochina led the Lady Sailors with 16 points, while Kiteh Rosales contributed 12. Philippine Navy now has a 1-4 win-loss record.

Tabaquero came up with 29 points, including 24 kills for FEU, while Wenneth Eulalio, Iris Renee Patrona and Mary Remy Joy Palma chipped in 17, 15 and 11 points, respectively.
