PHILIPPINE Navy and Philippine Air Force started their campaign in the Spikers’ Turf Open Conference on a high note on Tuesday at the Blue Eagle Gym in Katipunan, Quezon City.
Navy swept Philippine Army, 25-23, 25-20, 25-15, while Air Force turned back Sta. Elena, 25-22, 21-25, 25-23, 14-25, 15-10, spoiling a 31-point performance by Bryan Bagunas.
Former Far Eastern University standout Greg Dolor led the way for Navy with 11 points, from eight attacks and three aces.
Howard Mojica and Ranran Abdilla powered the Jet Spikers with 19 and 17 points, respectively.
Navy and Air Force joined opening-day winners Ateneo-Fudgee Barr, PLDT and Cignal in the upper half of the standings (1-0).
John Patrick Roxas finished with eight markers for Army, which is currently tied with Prima-FEU, Instituto Estetico Manila, Fury and Sta. Elena (0-1).
Aside from his powerful spikers, Bagunas also had 12 excellent receptions for Sta. Elena in the match that took almost two hours to finish.
