NATIONAL team mainstays, returning aspirants, and a few newcomers attended the last day of the national pool tryouts organized by the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Inc. (LVPI) on Friday afternoon at Arellano School of Law Gym along Taft Ave. in Manila.
From 37 attendees on Thursday only 18 attended in the last day of the tryouts for the women’s seniors and under 23 national pool conducted by Philippines head coach Shaq Delos Santos and his assistant coaches Kung Fu Reyes and Brian Esquibel.
National team mainstays Aby Maraño, Alyssa Valdez, Jia Morado and Jema Galanza led the 14 aspiring players in the drills and scrimmages.
Cocolife’s Bang Pineda and Tacloban’s Anne Esguerra as well as UST rookies Ysa Jimenez, MaFe Galanza, KC Galdones, and Donna Tuazon, and UE setter Lai Bendong were the newcomers in the tryouts.
Petron’s Mika Reyes, Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, Ces Molina, Denden Lazaro and Remy Palma came late after the drills and scrimmages.
Cocolife Fil-Am star Kalei Mau and Creamline libero Kyla Atienza, and UAAP Season 81 girls’ volleyball champions Angel Canino, Alleiah Malaluan and Justine Jazareno of De La Salle completed the two-day tryouts graced by LVPI president Peter Cayco and vice president Joey Romasanta.
The national team backed by Rebisco will form two national pools, the seniors squad will join the AVC Asian Women's Club Volleyball Championship in China on April 20-28, 20th Asian Senior Women's Championship in South Korea from August 31 to September 8 and the 30th Southeast Asian Games to be held in the Philippines from November 30 to December 10.
An under-23 pool will also be formed for the 3rd Asian Women's Under-23 Volleyball Championship in Vietnam on July 13 to 21.
