NATIONAL University did not let its guard down in the face of a late Ateneo charge to thwart the Blue Eagles, 25-8, 25-19, 16-25, 25-19, and keep its perfect Shakey's Super League record intact.
Ateneo gambled on their second stringers in the opening frame, only to be dominated by the NU Lady Bulldogs' championship-winning core led by captain Cess Robles and Alyssa Solomon who set the tone for the match.
UAAP rookie-MVP Bella Belen reaffirmed the team's mentality of avoiding complacency at any stage of the Lady Bulldogs' matches.
"Hindi po dapat kami makampante. Dapat binibigay namin yung best namin every game, every set at dapat yung respeto namin sa kalaban, nandun palagi," Belen said.
The UAAP squads asserted their dominance in today's matches, with UST and UP booking their tickets to the next round after sweeping Emilio Aguinaldo College and San Beda respectively.
Meanwhile, Adamson kept their season alive with a crucial straight sets victory over Lyceum, earning them a shot to reach the final eight with a win over EAC on Oct. 22
