NATIONAL University extended its winning streak to five with a 25-18, 26-24, 25-23 win over Far Eastern University in the 76th UAAP women's volleyball tournament on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.

Dindin Santiago came up with 17 points, while Myla Pablo had 12 for the Lady Bulldogs.

NU improved its win-loss record to 7-1 in second spot behind league-leading La Salle, which is unbeaten in seven matches.

The Lady Bulldogs held a slim 21-19 lead when the Morayta-based Lady Tamaraws went on a 4-1 spurt to snatch the lead, 23-22.

But last year's top rookie Aiko Urdas and Mina Aganon came to the rescue for NU and poured in three straight points to seal the win.

"Pinupulikat na ’yung iba sa kanila kaya ini-sprayan na, good thing palaban sila," said NU coach Edjet Mabbayad of his wards. "’Di sila bumitiw sa crunch time. Kitang-kita ang kaustuhan nilang manalo."

Altough they have built quite a gap from third-running Ateneo, which holds a 5-2 card, Mabbayad said they still need to improve a lot.

"Hindi pa ito sapat, kailangan pa mag work hard," he said. "Madami pang games ang susunod."

Rookie Bernadette Pons had 12, while Marie Simborio added 10 for the Lady Tamaraws, whoe remained in fourth spot with an even record of 4-4.
