ALL eyes are on the Philippine women’s national team but Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas, Inc. does not want the team to carry all the pressure.
An all-star cast of Aby Maraño, Alyssa Valdez, Jaja Santiago, Dindin Santiago-Manabat, Ces Molina, Mika Reyes, Kim Fajardo, Jia Morado, Kim Dy, Cha Cruz-Behag, Majoy Baron, and Dawn Macandili will see action in the Jakarta Palembang Asian Games in August.
But LVPI vice president Peter Cayco’s expectations are for the team to just give its best and nothing less.
“We expect them to give their best, to deliver and no matter what the outcome we’ll welcome it,” said Cayco.
The LVPI official also stressed that their main purpose of joining the Asian Games is not to win but to gain a much-needed exposure and experience in an international competition.
“I think the most important thing here’s getting mental toughness in international exposure. Hindi mo mabili sa store ‘yan eh, they have to experience it,” said Cayco.
“It doesn’t matter if we win or lose, ang ultimate goal is for these girls is to get the international exposure they need,” he added.
Immediately after the Asian Games, the Nationals will compete in the Asian Cup in September in Thailand and next year in the 30th Southeast Asian Games in Manila.
The national team is also set to fly to Japan for a training camp.
