NATIONAL beach volleyball coach Emil Lontoc is optimistic of a medal finish in the 29th Southeast Asian Beach Volleyball Championships set September 28 to 30 at Palawan Beach, Sentosa in Singapore.
Sisi Rondina of University of Sto. Tomas and Bernadeth Pons from Far Eastern University will play together, while the other team features Patty Orendain and Fiola Ceballos.
UST's Anthony Arbasto and FEU's Jude Garcia will compete in the men’s division.
“Hopeful ako na magme-medal ang beach volleyball natin,” said Lontoc. “Titignan ko sa Youtube kung ano ang (galaw) kalaban natin,” he added.
Asian powerhouse Thailand and Indonesia are among the early favorites.
In UAAP Season 79, Rondina and Jem Gutierrez beat Pons and Kyla Ateinza for the gold.
Rondina and Pons played together for Petron and won the Philippine Super Liga beach volleyball championship last summer, beating Orendain and Ceballos of Generika-Ayala in the final.
The two women's pairs were selected in a tryout held on August 4, according to Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Inc.
