MICHELLE Cobb scored three straight as La Salle defeated University of the Philippines, 25-21, 25-22, 26-24, in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.
Kim Dy and Tin Tiamzon finished with 13 points each for the Lady Spikers, while Des Cheng added 10 and Cobb had 10 markers, including seven of the team’s 16 service aces.
“Hindi madaling mapatayan ang UP so sabi ko kailangan ng tyaga and hindi puro power lang ang gagawin so siguro kailangan talaga ng maturity inside the court,” said La Salle coach Ramil de Jesus.
Three-peat seeking Lady Spikers showed grit after they came from 21-24 deficit in the third set.
Majoy Baron started La Salle’s run with a spike followed by Isa Molde’s error and Cobb sealed the win.
La Salle, which erased a 10-17 deficit in the third set, improved to 2-0 for a share of the lead with National University.
“Sabi ko nga hindi madaling kalaban ang UP. Pero sabi ko malaking bagay ‘yung makikita mo ang team mo na kayang kumapit na kaya ipanalo kahit impossibleng manalo, nananalo pa,” said the 10-time UAAP champion coach.
Skipper Diana Carlos delivered 19 points for UP, while Isa Molde added 10.
UP dropped to 1-1, tied with University of Santo Tomas and Far Eastern University.
