MELA Tunay still feels blessed even as University of Santo Tomas made an early exit from the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament in her final year with the Tigresses.

Tunay reached the Final Four in her first year before the Tigresses missed out in the next four seasons, but the veteran spiker said she has no regrets knowing she gave her all.

“Basta ako feeling ko sobrang swerte ko pa rin,” said Tunay, a graduating Communication Arts major.

She is hoping she would not be tagged as a player who perennially missed the semifinals, but a person who did not give up.

“Since hindi naman nila ako mare-remember as ‘yung player na nag-Final Four, gusto kong maremember as the player who never stopped trying,” said Tunay, who recovered from a broken nose sustained in a commercial league in the preseason to play for the Tigresses.

The Tigresses go out with consecutive losses, their season capped by a four-set defeat to surprise package University of the Philippines.

Tunay said she still goes out satisfied, saying what she learned under coach Kungfu Reyes on her final year will help her beyond volleyball.

“Kasi naabutan ko si coach Kungfu Reyes, kasi sobrang way beyond sa skills ‘yung na-impart niya sa akin.”

“Kasi ‘yung mga salita niya ‘yun ‘yung nagnu-nourish sa pagkatao ko sa kanya parang mas nagiging matapang and positive ako always,” she said.

She will not be suiting up for Reyes' team Army, however, in the club leagues as as she plays for Cignal under Sammy Acaylar.
