MELA Tunay and other volleyball stars have joined the efforts to raise funds for Olympian Yan Lariba, auctioning off their jerseys.
The former University of Sto. Tomas star gathered the jerseys of several players from Petron, Foton, Cignal, Generika-Ayala, Cocolife and Sta. Lucia, raising P216,885.
F2 Logistics jerseys were auctioned off by La Salle, while Tunay, whose father died of cancer three years ago, led the two-week fundraiser of players from other schools.
Lariba, the first Filipino table tennis Olympian, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia earlier this year.
“Naisip ko na baka mas may value yung jersey ko and iba pang players if we do another auction as an extension project ng DLSU Sports,” said Tunay.
“So ‘yung F2 Logistics, dun nag-auction sa DLSU Sports. And then mga non Lasallian, ako ‘yung naghandle. I asked the help of PSL to promote,” she added.
The payments from the jersey auction were directly turned over to La Salle.
Meanwhile, #KayaMoYan shirts are being sold at the La Salle.
Lariba was UAAP Athlete of the Year in Season 77 and 78, and the Most Valuable Player in Season 75, 77, and 78 after going undefeated in her entire college career.
