RISING star Marck Espejo makes his debut for Cagayan Valley as the Rising Suns take on Richard Gomez and Champion Infinity in the inaugural game of the Spikers’ Turf First Season Open Conference opening on Sunday at The Arena in San Juan.
Espejo, the two-time UAAP Most Valuable Player for reigning champion Ateneo, is expected to be at the forefront of the Rising Suns’ match-up against the team formerly known as Sistema in the lone 9 a.m. match on opening day.
Eight teams are seeing action in the Spikers’ Turf, the men’s counterpart of the Shakey’s V-League organized and conceptualized by the same group behind the premier women’s volleyball meet in the country, Sports Vision.
Aside from Cagayan Valley and Champion Infinity, also seeing action in the first conference are Cignal, Fourbees-Cavite Patriots, Instituto Estetico Manila (IEM), Philippine Air Force, Philippine Army, and PLDT Home Ultera.
Espejo is joined at Cagayan Valley by one-time UAAP finals MVP Peter Torres, Ateneo teammate Rex Intal, Jan Pagkalinawan, Rudy Gatdula, Warren Pirante, Angelo Torres, Renz Ordonez, Erickson Joseph Ramos, Aaron Calderon, Michael Zamora, Lorenzo Dizon, Eden Canlas, and Brendon Satos.
Aside from Gomez, Champion Infinity has in its lineup Chris Macasaet, Christopher Antonio, John Angelo Macalma, Rhenze Hu, Mark Lee, Sylvester Honrade, Al-Frazin Abdulwahab, Christian Anthony Arbasto, Angelo Espiritu, and Anjo Banaga.
Fourbees-Cavite Patriots face PLDT Home Ultera in the next playing date on Tuesday at 9 a.m. followed by the match between IEM and Philippine Army at 11 a.m.
Air Force takes on Cignal on Thursday starting at 9 a.m., while Cagayan Valley goes up against Cavite in the next match at 11 a.m.
