WESTERN Visayas setter Marianne Sotomil is set to formally join the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons volleyball team next month after playing for Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

The 18-year-old Sotomil had committed to the Lady Maroons earlier this year and said she has actually taken part in several scrimmages.

Bacolod Tay Tung still has a tournament to play, in the Private Schools Athletic Association National Games in Tagbilaran, after which Sotomil will join the Lady Maroons.

She helped Western Visayas claim bronze medal in the Palarong Pambansa, behind National Capital Region and Calabarzon.

Sotomil played a huge role last year in the BTTHS Thunderbolts’ fifth place finish in a 12-team tournament featuring Under-18 squads from across the country, and she is pleased to be noticed for her efforts.

Nag-approach sila sa manager namin,” said Sotomil.

She revealed she got into volleyball was by accident, literally.

    “Parang napilitan lang,” said Sotomil.

“Pero I learned how to love volleyball.

“Everything happens for a reason,” she added.

Sotomil vowed to earn her spot in the UP squad, and says she will do anything to contribute for Lady Maroons.

“I’ll just play my game po. Mahirap din po mag-start or ma-line-up agad,” said Sotomil.
