ATENEO remained unscathed in the UAAP Season 79 volleyball tournament, scoring an easy 25-17, 25-16, 25-20, victory over Adamson on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.

Marck Espejo led the way anew for the Blue Eagles with 22 points, while Rex Intal added 12 points.

It was the Blue Eagles’ fourth win in as many matches, this time avoiding another first-round loss to the Falcons.

“We prepared well for this kasi for the past three years, first loss namin lagi is against Adamson,” said Ateneo coach Oliver Almadro.

“Siguro they learned their lesson pero hindi pa kami dito natatapos. I told my players that we need to do more,” he added.

Three-time MVP Espejo came up with 20 of the Blue Eagles’ 46 kills, while Adamson had a team total of 30.

Joshua Villanueva and Intal combined for seven of the team’s 10 blocks, while the Falcons only had one block in the one-hour and 12-minute match.

Jerome Sarmiento scored 10, while team captain Michael Sudaria had six points for Adamson, winless in four matches. The Falcons share the bottom of the standings with University of the East.
