MARCK Espejo made an impressive debut with Oita Miyoshi Weisse Adler only to fall short at the hands of Toray Arrows in three sets, 15-25, 20-25, 19-25, in its campaign opener in the V. Premier League men’s division on Saturday in Japan.

Espejo, the first Filipino spiker to play as import in Japan’s top volleyball league, proved his worth right in his very first game as a Weisse Adler.

The five-time UAAP Most Valuable Player out of Ateneo de Manila turned heads during his debut with strong back row kills and even soared over three blockers to nail an attack.

The Filipino open spiker finished with 16 points on 12 attacks and four blocks.

Espejo and Weisse Adler try to bounce back against Nagano Tridents on Sunday, while Toray Arrows eye their second win against Panasonic Panthers on the same day.

“Good luck on your next game! We in the Philippines will pray for the success of your team! God bless! #believe #hearttowin #marckespejo," former coach Oliver Almadro posted on his Twitter account.
