ATENEO star Marck Espejo is itching to return to action and lead the Blue Eagles in their bid for a third consecutive UAAP volleyball title.
The Blue Eagles completed a 14-match sweep of the elimination round and have not played a competitive match since April 8.
Three teams went through the stepladder with University of Sto. Tomas and Far Eastern University falling by the wayside as No. 2 seed National University earned the right to face Ateneo for the crown.
A few days were added to the long wait, extending Ateneo’s break to 24 days, as the UAAP board moved the series opener from April 29 to May 2 due to the Asean Summit.
“Prepared na kami kasi akala namin sa Saturday na,” said Espejo. “Kasi ang tagal na naming nabakante. Nag-Holy Week tapos two weeks pa parang ang tagal na.”
“Kumabaga para kaming plastic na punung-puno ng tubig na gustung-gusto nang sumabog talaga,” he added. “Kasi siyempre lahat naghihintay na rin.”
While they are gearing up for the UAAP Finals, the three-time MVP is also preparing for the academic finals at Ateneo.
“Eh ‘yung finals (week) pa masasabay doon sa Finals namin (sa school) so sobrang hassle kasi siguro marami kaming iisipin,” said Espejo.
“Pero siguro prepared naman kami lagi. Nagti-training naman kami and alam naman namin ang ginagawa namin and naka-program naman ang ginagawa namin,” he said.
