    Dec 5, 2016

DEFENDING champion Perpetual Help overpowered Mapua, 25-23, 25-18, 25-20, on Monday to create a three-way tie for second place in the men's division of the 92nd NCAA volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

Allan Jay Sala-an scored a match-best 13 hits, including nine on kills, Kasim Esmail scored 11 and Rey Taneo, Jr. had 10 points to power the Altas to No. 2 alongside St. Benilde and San Beda with 3-1 win-loss records.

Relan Taneo facilitated the Las Pinas-based school's relentless attacking by dishing out 30 excellent sets.

It was a big bounce back win for Perpetual Help after it suffered a heartbreaking 25-18, 29-27, 23-25, 27-29, 10-15 loss to San Beda.

"We're getting our confidence back after our loss," said Perpetual Help coach Sammy Acaylar.

The Cardinals, led by Rey Arth Andaya's 11 points, absorbed their third loss in five matches.
