IT's better to lose now than later.

This was what Ateneo team captain Maddie Madayag felt in the aftermath of a 25-19, 21-25, 25-18, 20-25, 9-15 loss at the hands of Far Eastern University in their UAAP women's volleyball season debut.

The Lady Eagles, she said, are still learning to play as a team.

"Kagaya ng pinagusapan namin sa loob, kumakapa pa kami. I mean, we’re still gelling. Okay na yung talo kami ngayon kaysa panalo panalo panalo tapos biglang matatalo kami," Madayag said after emerging from the Ateneo dugout at the Mall of Asia Arena.

"This is also a learning experience for us na natalo kam,i so I think alam na namin kung anong pagkukulang namin sa games and alam namin yung kailangan namin pagtrabahuin."

Madayag felt Ateneo actually fared well, giving the Lady Tams trouble from start to finish.

"Lumaban naman pero 'yun lang kinapos lang siguro. Iwas lang kami sa mga errors kasi medyo maraming error namin kanina," Madayag said.

"We all played a good game naman yun nga lang kulang talaga. Yun nga, we’re still gelling di pa kami completely as in buo kinakapa pa kasi first game, di ba?"

Ateneo will be better prepared coming to its game against National University on Wednesday, Madayag bowed.

"Most probably, titignan namin paano laro nila against Adamson. Babasahin namin, pagaaralin namin kung saan namin sila iba-block, kung paano yung receives nila, paano yun serves nila," she said.
