    Dec 6, 2016

LYCEUM shocked defending champion St. Benilde, 25-22, 24-26, 25-18, 20-25, 15-10, on Tuesday to bolster its Final Four bid in the women's division of the 92nd NCAA volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan City.

Team captain Cherilyn Jhane Sindayen fired a team-best 16 points including key hits in the fifth and final set to power the Lady Pirates to a share of fourth spot with the Arellano U Lady Pirates on 3-1 (win-loss) records.

La Rainne Fabay, Patrice Mabelle Inton and Christine Miralles chipped in 14, 13 and 12 hits, respectively, to help seal it for LPU, the many-time Women's NCAA champion before it joined the NCAA.

The Lady Blazers, for their part, absorbed their first defeat after winning its first four outings and fell to second place behind Grethcel Soltones and the San Sebastian Lady Stags, who are now the lone undefeated team with a 4-0 card.

LPU coach Emil Lontoc said they just want respect.

"I hope they will notice us now," said Lontoc, one of the most experienced coaches in the country today, in Filipino.

In men's action, St. Benilde trounced LPU, 26-28, 25-19, 25-17, 25-21, to jump to joint No. 2 alongside San Beda on 4-1 slate.

In juniors' play, LPU routed La Salle-Greenhills,  25-11, 25-16, 25-8, to seize a share of the lead with Emilio Aguinaldo with three wins apiece.
