    UAAP, Super Liga and PVL players invited to national volleyball team tryouts

    PLAYERS from the UAAP and rival pro leagues Philippine Super Liga and Premier Volleyball League have been invited to try out for the national women’s team that will see action in the 18th Asian Games in August and the AVC Asian Cup in September.

    The tryout is set on Friday at Arellano University gym in Legarda, and Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas, Inc. vice president Peter Cayco hopes to see top players attend including National University’s Jaja Santiago, Alyssa Valdez of Creamline in the PVL and Mika Reyes of Petron in the Super Liga.

    LVPI refused to reveal the identity of the coach that they have hired to form the team.

    “The federation have already talked to the new head coach and we gave him a free hand on who he wants to choose for the national team,” said Cayco.

      Among the players invited from the PSL are Rhea Dimaculangan and Frances Molina of Petron, Maika Ortiz, Dindin Santiago-Manabat and CJ Rosario of Foton, Cha Cruz-Behag, Ara Galang, Aby Marano and Lourdes Clemente of F2 Logistics, Rachel Anne Daquis, Royse Tubino of Cignal and MJ Philips of Sta. Lucia.

      F2’s Kim Fajardo, Jia Morado and Melissa Gohing of Creamline and Myla Pablo and Elaine Kasilag of Pocari Sweat of the PVL were also invited.

      The UAAP tournament is still ongoing, but the LVPI is hoping to see the league’s top players at the tryouts. Among them are Majoy Baron, Kim Dy and Dawn Macandili of La Salle, Tots Carlos and Isa Molde of University of the Philippines, Bea de Leon, Maddie Madayag and Joanna Maraguinot of Ateneo, Kath Arado of University of the East, Jasmin Nabor of National Univeristy, Mylene Paat of Adamson University, Sisi Rondina of University of Santo Tomas and Bernadeth Pons and Kyla Atienza of Far Eastern University are also expected to come.

      Cayco stressed that although the above mentioned players were given formal invitations, the new head coach will also welcome walk in participants.

      “This is an open tryout, those who were not invited or were not part of the list are very much welcome to join the tryouts,” said Cayco.

      “This early, I want to thank all the stake holders, the PSL, PVL, UAAP and NCAA for their support to the national team,” he added.
