ALL work and no play makes the Philippine national women’s volleyball team dull.
Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas, Inc president Peter Cayco believes that the Nationals deserve even just a day of rest and relaxation to keep their minds and bodies focused on the 2018 Jakrata-Palembang Asian Games from August 18 to September 2.
The national training pool is currently in Okayama, Japan for a two-week training as they've been undergoing grueling practices, drills, scrimmage, and tune up games in the morning, before working on conditioning in the afternoon.
But Cayco asked head coach Shaq delos Santos if they could sneak in a day for shopping, sight-seeing, and enjoying the sumptuous Japanese cuisine on their last day in the foreign country.
“Nagpaalam ako kay coach (Shaq), sabi ko, coach pwede bang bigyan natin sila ng isang araw na magpagpag,” said Cayco.
The team’s last training day is on the 14th and from Okayama, the team will go to Osaka the following morning for its much-deserved break.
“Universal Studios sila, Dotonbori, shopping, pasyal, para makapag-unwind and bonding,” shared Cayco.
“Oo daw (sabi ni coach), hindi daw ba pwedeng dalawang araw. (Sabi ko) tama na ‘yung isa, magastos," he added with a laugh.
The team will fly back to Manila on the 16th and will leave for Indonesia the following morning.
After the Asian Games, the team will see action in the Asian Cup on September 17 to 25 in Thailand.
