LARONG Volleyball sa Pilipinas, Inc. does not want the national women’s volleyball team to feel too much pressure ahead of the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia.
LVPI secretary general Ariel Paredes reminded the Nationals to focus on their preparation instead on what other people may say or think about them.
It has been 36 long years since the Philippines’ women’s volleyball team saw action in the Asian meet and finished fifth and so Paredes is managing his expectations.
“Sa tingin ko walang pressure kasi alam na natin eh (ang result),” he said.
The LVPI official also pointed out that the main goal in participating in the Asian Games is to gain the much-needed international exposure and experience that will help the team for the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, which will be held in Manila late next year.
“Ang tinitignan ng LVPI dito ‘yung SEA Games talaga eh, ‘yun ang target natin,” he said.
Thirteen years ago, the Philippines last won a medal in the biennial meet when a team led by coach Ramil de Jesus bagged a bronze in the 2005 Manila SEAG.
Paredes feels optimistic about the national team especially with the support from the federation and private sponsors.
“Nandyan na ‘yung suporta, kaya tuluy-tuloy lang,” he said. “Kaya ‘yung pressure hindi masyado.”
The national team is currently in Okayama, Japan for a two-week training camp.
They will be back on the 16th and will immediately fly to Indonesia the following morning.
