CIGNAL TV eased to its fourth straight victory, beating winless Gamboa Coffee, 25-11, 25-15, 25-18, on Sunday in the Premier Volleyball League at The Arena in San Juan.
Lorenzo Capate led Cignal with 10 points, while team Captain Ysay Marasigan scored eight. Mark Alfafara also contributed eight points before leaving early to play for the national volleyball team in a tuneup match.
"First game na wala sila Mark Alfafara. We're trying to adjust siyempre ilang games sila mawawala so siyempre I'm really maximizing kung ano 'yung meron ako," Cignal coach Oliver Almadro said.
"I just have to find a way and make a way in what we have. What's important is that 'yung mga players kahit wala sila [Philippine team members] are ready to deliver, are ready to step up. Kailangan ang mindset is not kung sino 'yung wala, it's because it's on what we will learn or what we need to do during sa games namin," he expressed.
Cignal will also be without Philipine team members Herschel Ramos and Bonjamar Castel in the coming matches.
Meanwhile, Sta. Elena downed Philippine Army, 25-22, 22-25, 25-21, 25-23.
The Wrecking Balls improved to 2-2.
Isaah Arda led Sta. Elena with 16 points from 13 attacks, two blocks and one service ace, while Berlin Paglinawan chipped in 15 points.
"Kaninang umaga bago kami pumunta sa gym na ito ngayong Sunday, may group chat kami sabi ko 'Have a blessed Sunday. We should just enjoy this game,'" Sta. Elena coach Arnold Laniog said.
"Ang sabi ko anuman ang mangyari hindi kami nakatingin doon sa result basta hangga't magkakasama kami enjoyin lang namin, kasi minsan hindi kami nakakapag-practice ng magkakasama," he added.
Cignal will face the Mega Builders in a tiebreaker match on July 19, while Sta. Elena will battle the Mega Builders on July 22.
