BRAZILIAN volleyball icon Leila Barros is back in the Philippines.
Barros, 53, made a sentimental trip back to the Philippines on Friday - 25 years since she captured the hearts of Filipinos while playing for Brazil in the 2000 World Grand Prix.
She returns to Manila now a senator in her homeland and as a guest of honor for the semifinals and final of the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship.

Weather-related delays in her trip from Doha, Qatar to the Philippines forced the postponement of her scheduled media meet-and-greet event on Friday.
The supposed program had an interview session and a mini-reunion with some of her devout Filipino fans from the early 2000s lined up in the event reset to 9 a.m. on Saturday.
She landed in Manila a few hours later than her expected arrival on Friday evening.
Barros was accompanied by her ex-Brazilian national team cohort Ricarda Lima, three-time Cuban Olympic gold medalist Miyera Luis Hernandez and her husband-slash-former Cuban sports minister Humberto Rodriguez.
The South American crowd darling will be present at the Mall of Asia Arena to witness Poland, Italy, Bulgaria amd Czechia duke it out for the grandest prize in world men’s volleyball this weekend.
