CHINA topped Pool F after a 25-13, 25-10, 25-12 win over Thailand on Tuesday and loomed as the Philippines' opponent in the quarterfinal round of the 2015 Asian Under-23 Women’s Volleyball Championship at the Philsports Arena.
Liu Yanhan had 14 points while Xu Jiujung finished with 11 points in a surprisingly easy win over Thailand that enabled the Chinese to top Pool F with a 3-0 (win-loss) record at the of their second-round campaign.
As the top seeds in Group F, the Chinese could end up meeting the hosts in the crossover quarters if the Philippines loses to Chinese Taipei on Tuesday night and drop to the bottom of Group E.
The Chinese didn’t expect to have an easy win over Thailand, which beat Korea in the preliminaries. Korea, on the other hand, forced China to five sets before losing in their second round encounter just last Monday.
“I didn’t think we will win in straight sets,” said Li, China’s team captain.
“No,” said coach Xu Jiande through an interpreter when he was asked if he expected China to win over Thailand.
Chatchu-on Moksri had nine points for Thailand, which finished second in Pool F with a 2-1 record.
