THE Tony Boy Liao-led Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) bared that it had unearthed 'financial anomalies’ from its predecessors under Ramon ‘Tats’ Suzara’s watch.

“As you all know, we entered in November 21 and we found out a lot of things, anomalies, especially pera,” Liao said.

Incumbent PNVF executive director Ireneo ‘Iby’ Bautista came to the defense of the current federation, citing unaccounted expenses by the Suzara administration.

“Just one example, ‘yung aming 2023 financial statement ay hindi pa tapos. 2023 ‘yun.” Bautista said.

“Maraming nawawalang resibo, maraming unaacounted for. What more itong 2024, 2025?”

Before coming forward to the press, Bautista added that their best efforts to produce the necessary reports fell short as it would require more time to iron the discrepancies out.

“May mga dokumento talaga at marami kaming nakitang mga discrepancies. Marami kaming nakita na ‘yung pumapasok na pera, supposedly para sa isang purpose, pero ang nangyayari, pinagamit sa iba, pinapaikot,” Bautista added.

“To tell you honestly, makapal ang demand letter ngayon ng PNVF ang sakit ng ulo, sobra. Nakikiusap nga kami sa’ming mga suppliers na unti-unti namin silang babayaran. Talagang nu’ng nagtake-over kami, zero balance, may utang pa.”

The way Bautista described it: “binigyan mo kami ng bagay na walang gamit, walang kuryente, walang tubig.”

In recent interviews with SPIN.ph, both Palou and Liao cited alleged misuse of federation funds in airfare and commissions, among others.

Such unliquidated expenses, as Bautista explained, have been the culprit of delayed allowances players and other stakeholders have raised in recent days.

“Isa talaga sa naging problema kung bakit hindi sila nakasahod, ‘yung late liquidations na six months, hindi pa tapos,” he added.

“For a big sponsor’s company, how can you give another sponsorship kung ‘yung previous mo, hindi pa tapos ‘yung liquidation? I don't think that big companies will really do that. ‘Yun ang naging problema, late liquidations.”

The beach volleyball program has reportedly had its allowances delayed for roughly half a year, and some players from the indoor program delayed by up to eight months.

When SPIN.ph reached out to Suzara last Tuesday, he underscored that Liao and Palou were both part of his administration and should also be privy on where the funds went and how they were used.

Liao is expected to write to the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) board, one currently led by Suzara, to forward these matters.

But as for the current administration, filling these financial gaps remain their utmost priority in what they described as rectification of the previous leadership’s wrongdoings.

“We're still trying to look for money para mapasahod sila nang maayos. Although meron naman pumapasok na pera, pero that is intended for another program,” Bautista said.

“This new leadership is not going to use or is not going to do what the last leadership has done, na pinapaikot nila ‘yung pera, kasi nakakahiya naman ‘yun sa mga sponsors.

“Now, we’re still waiting for other sponsors, hopefully, na pumasok para ma-address ‘yung mga problema. It is our priority for the national team members to receive what is due to them.”

Their vow?

“We are trying our very best to address that problem.”
