COLLEGE of Saint Benilde’s 43-game women’s volleyball win streak came to an astonishing end at Letran’s hands in straight sets, 25-22, 25-23, 26-24, in NCAA Season 100 on Saturday.
It was the Lady Blazers’ first loss since January 2019.
In that six-year period, the Jerry Yee-led side made history with a championship three-peat from Seasons 97 to 99 which it all swept.
Wingers Nizelle Martin and Sheena Sarie led the Lady Knights’ major breakthrough with 34 combined points, backed by 19 markers from Judiel Nitura, sister of Adamson super rookie Shaina Nitura.
Pacing CSB’s shock loss was Wielyn Estoque with 13 points and former MVP Mycah Go with nine in their first game without Yee at the helm.
The NCAA’s recent sanction on Yee, who had to step down from head coaching duties, forced CSB to make a staffing switch-up as deputy mentor Onyok Getigan takes over as head coach on paper.
Yee would then be named assistant coach and, unfortunately, losing his first CSB game as deputy.
