LETRAN finally won its first match after five defeats, downing Jose Rizal University, 25-20, 23-25, 25-11, 25-10, in the 88th NCAA season women's volleyball tournament on Thursday at the Arena in San Juan.
Mikaela Lopez pounded 16 points, Jamaika Rikka Villas had 15, while Sarah Jane Espelita and Angelica Santos chipped in 14 and 12, respectively. The Lady Knights are in eighth spot.
Rosalie Pepito was the only JRU player to finish in double-digit scoring with 15.
JRU now holds a 1-7 win-loss card.
Arellano University bested Mapua, 25-11, 25-12, 25-11, in the other match.
Bunnie Cawicaan came up with nine points for the Lady Chiefs, who remained in third spot with a 5-1 win-loss card.
Arellano capitalized on Mapua's 26 team errors compared to their 17 miscues. The Lady Chiefs also scored on 11 service aces against two by the Lady Cardinals.
Bea Aquino had six markers for Mapua, which remained winless in eight games.
