FAR Eastern University star Bernadeth Pons had to swallow a bitter pill after they squandered a 2-1 lead and bowed to Ateneo, 19-25, 26-24, 25-19, 16-25, 11-15, in the UAAP Season 79 women's volleyball tournament on Sunday at The Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Tamaraws looked to hand the Lady Eagles their first back-to-back loss since Ateneo dropped two straight losses at the end of the first round and start of the second round to La Salle and University of the Philippines, respectively, last year.
But the Katipunan-based squad recovered in the fourth set all the way to the decider to finish the match that took two hours and 16 minutes to finish.
“Sobrang sayang, sobrang nakaka-disappoint kasi mananalo na tapos natalo pa,” said Pons.
The fourth year outside spiker, though, learned something from their loss.
Pons noted that their lack of floor defense and their costly errors down the stretch led to their downfall.
The 20-year old ace spiker admitted that FEU simply lost the killer instinct that they badly needed.
FEU will have a chance to bounce back when it faces listless University of the East on Saturday.
