LEAGUE-leading La Salle tries to complete a sweep of the first round of eliminations as it battles winless University of the East on Wednesday in the 76th UAAP women's volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
The match starts at 2 p.m.
The Lady Spikers defeated archrival Ateneo, 25-16, 25-20, 25-16, on Sunday for its sixth win in this tournament and 22 straight dating back to last season.
DLSU, led by team captain Aby Maraño, Ara Galang and Mika Reyes, also has yet to drop a set and is heavily favored over UE, at the foot of the table with a 0-6 card.
Adamson University and Far Eastern University battle for solo fourth spot in the 4 p.m. match.
The Lady Falcons and the Lady Tams have even 3-3 win-loss records.
Adamson hopes to bounce back from a 28-26, 21-25, 28-30, 20-25 loss to National University on Sunday, and will rely on Bhebs Pineda, Mayeth Zapanta and Amanda Villanueva.
FEU, on the other hand, tries to score a follow-up to a 15-25, 25-15, 25-22, 25-22 win over University of Santo Tomas.
Lady Tamaraws assistant coach Shaq de los Santos said they need to play even better than the last outing, noting that Adamson is not an easy team to beat.
“Kailangan mas higitan ’yung pwede naming gawin,” said De los Santos. “Kailangan mas maging matibay din kami kasi magaling ang depensa ng Adamson.”
