PHILIPPINE Army notched a second straight win by disposing of an undermanned Petron side in straight sets on Friday night in the Philippine Super Liga at The Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Troopers coasted to a 25-18, 25-15, 25-19 win which took them just 64 minutes to complete.
“Adavantage kasi na wala 'yung iba nilang key players (Blaze Spikers), kaya sabi ko sa kanila (players) 'wag na natin pagbigyan, kunin na natin sa three sets lang," said Philippine Army coach Rico de Guzman.
Michelle Carolino and team captain Joanne Bunag had 12 points apiece to lead the Lady Troopers to their second straight win after losing their opening assignment against league-leader Cagayan Valley.
“Suwerte lang siguro kaya ganoon,” said the 34-year-old Carolino in downplaying the easy win.
Angge Tabaquero almost single-handedly carried the fight for Petron with 12 points as the Blaze Spikers dropped to a 1-2 (win-loss) record.
Petron showed up with just nine players in Tabaquero, Gretchen Ho, Fille Cainglet, Carmina Acevedo, Aiza Maizo, Judy Ann Caballejo, Charo Soriano, Karla Bello, and Michelle del Rosario.
Maika Ortiz and Rhea Dimaculangan came in late for the match due to school commitments. The duo only checked in during the third set, by which time the Lady Troopers had the game well under control.
