FAR Eastern University tightened its grip on solo fourth spot after it demolished University of Santo Tomas, 26-24, 25-18, 25-18, on Sunday in the 76th UAAP women's volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

Rookie Bernadette Pons and Marie Toni Basas combined for 22 points, while Samantha Dawson and Mary Palma added nine markers apiece for FEU.

The Lady Tamaraws needed only an hour and 20 minutes to finish the match and improve their win-loss record to 6-5.

La Salle is on top with an unblemished record of 11-0, followed by National University at 10-1 and Ateneo at 7-4.

"Sobrang happy kasi halos lahat tumulong," said FEU coach Shaq delos Santos. "Sana magsabay-sabay na gumanda ang laro nila kasi malaking bagay 'yun."

Christine Agno, who hurt her knee in the game against La Salle on Wednesday, came up with 13 excellent digs for the Lady Tams.

"Nag-rest lang siya tapos siya ang may gusto na maglaro talaga kaya pinakiramdaman lang namin sa practice buti naman nagdeliver ngayon," said delos Santos of Agno.

Jem Gutierrez had nine points, while Ria Meneses added eight for the Tigresses, who are in the sixth spot with a 4-7 mark.

Adamson is in fifth with a 5-6 record, followed by UST, with UP in seventh at 1-10 and UE at 0-11.
