POWERHOUSE Sandugo-San Sebastian and Cagayan Valley-Perpetual Help start their best-of-three showdown for the Shakey’s V-League Open Conference championship Sunday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Game 1 of the Finals is set at 4 p.m. shortly after the separate series for third place between Ateneo and dethroned champion Philippine Army.
The Rising Suns were responsible for ousting the Lady Troopers, whom they swept in the best-of-three semis.
Now they try their hands against the top seeded team favored to win the tournament right from the very start behind the presence of two-time MVP Jeng Baulee of Thailand.
“Iba ang Sandugo. Mga beterano na yan, may dalawa pa silang Thai,” admitted Cagayan Valley coach Mike Rafael.
“Kailangan matibay ang blocks namin,” added the coach, aware of the horde of power hitters Sandugo has in power hitters Baulee, Nen Utaiwan, Nene Bautista and Angela Benting.
Sandugo, however, is not taking chances despite also scoring an easy sweep of Ateneo in their own semifinals series.
“Whoever we face in the finals, it’s going to be tough,” said Sandugo coach Roger Gorayeb.
