THREE-time defending champion De La Salle goes for a 14-game sweep of the 76th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament and a stint in the Finals when it battles title-threat National University Saturday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
The Lady Spikers have won their first 13 games of the season and will be looking to close out their elimination round campaign with another victory in the 2 p.m. encounter.
And team captain Aby Maraño hopes to keep the win-streak going as she said, “ang goal ko for this team talaga is (win) the championship.”
But out to thwart the Lady Spikers in their bid for a return to the Finals and a thrice-to-beat advantage in the event they completed a 14-game sweep of the elims, are the second-running Bulldogs who have been preparing against the champions as early as Sunday during their game against Adamson.
“Lahat naman ng teams meron 'yan weakness,” stressed NU coach Edjet Mabbayad on La Salle's unbeaten run. “Alamin na lang natin sa Sabado.”
“Sabi ko sa kanila (players) pagdating sa loob ng court laban na agad ang nasa isip,” he added. “Enjoy lang at the same time, gawin ang tama kasi hindi naman pwedeng puro enjoy lang na di tama ang ginagawa.”
Meanwhile, Adamson hopes to secure a playoff for the no. 4 spot as it takes on also-ran University of Santo Tomas in the first game at 2 p.m.
The Lady Falcons are currently tied with Far Eastern University at fourth spot with identical 6-7 record and a win will give them at least a playoff for the last semifinals berth.
Bhebs Pineda is again expected to lead the charge for the Lady Falcons in the aftermath of her 25-points explosion in their hard fought loss to the Lady Bulldogs last week, 25-15, 23-25, 16-25, 32-34.
