CAGAYAN Valley disposed Cignal in straight sets, 25-14, 29-27, 25-18, in the Philippine Super Liga All-Filipino Conference at the Astrodome on Sunday.
Former University of Santo Tomas star Aiza Maizo had 16 points for the Lady Rising Suns, who finished the single round preliminaries with a 2-4 win-loss record to remain in the hunt for a quarterfinals berth.
Pau Soriano, Janine Marciano and Wenneth Eulalio each had eight points, while Rosemarie Vargas made seven for Cagayan.
“Gaya nga ng sabi ko sa kanila, ang individual skills andiyan na pero ang problema 'di nagsasabay-sabay,” said Cagayan coach Nes Pamilar.
“Dati isa, dalawa, o tatlong players lang ang nagko-contribute. Ngayon halos lahat nagko-contribute," he added.
Cagayan pulled away from a close 15-14 contest in the third and silenced Cignal behind a 6-0 run for a 21-14 lead.
After Michiko Castaneda, who came off the bench, stopped the bleeding for the HD Spikers, 15-21, Wenneth Eulalio, Soriano, and Maizo took charge for the Lady Rising Suns to finish off their opponents.
Norie Jane Diaz, Danika Gendrauli, and Honey Tubino each came with nine points for Cignal, while Abi Praca added eight.
The HD Spikers, the tournament's back-to-back runner up, remained at the bottom of the standings with a 0-4 record.
