LYCEUM of the Philippines ripped winless Mapua, 25-16, 25-21, 25-12, on Wednesday to boost their semifinal bid in the NCAA Season 92 women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Pirates, coming from a five-set upset of champion College of St. Benilde, notched their fourth win in five matches to join Arellano in third spot.
Team captain Cherilyn Sindayen scored 18 points with 14 from kills as the Lady Pirates chalked up their second straight win.
San Sebastian leads with a 6-0 win-loss card, followed by St. Benilde (5-1).
Czarina Orros added eight markers for the Lady Pirates, who dealt the Lady Cardinals their sixth loss.
“Hindi pa rin kami satisfied sa ginagalaw nila kasi alam ko na kaya pa nilang umangat ng laro,” said Lyceum coach Emil Lontoc, whose wards scored 12 aces.
“Ang sinasabi ko nga sa kanila kahit sinong team dito kaya naming talunin kapag gumanda ang laro namin at nag-peak na kami," he added.
Dianne Latayan and Angeline Manungdayao scored five points each for the Lady Cardinals.
In the men’s play, Mapua survived LPU, 25-18, 25-20, 22-25, 14-25, 15-13, to even its record 3-3.
Alfredo Pangulong led the Cardinals with 17 points, Mark Egan scored 12 and Skipper Angelino Pertierra chipped in with 10.
Joeward Presnede scored 24 points for Lyceum, which absorbed its third loss in five matches.
The tournament takes a break and will resume on January 4.
