THE La Salle-Dasmarinas Lady Patriots moved a step closer to winning another championship in the 20th National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) women’s volleyball tournament.
The Lady Patriots were stretched to five sets by the Philippine School of Business Administration Lady Jaguars before prevailing, 24-26, 25-20, 25-20, 21-25, 15-9, Friday in Game One of their best-of-three title series at the Rizal Technological University gymnasium in Mandaluyong.
The timely return of frontliner Monique Tiangco in the final set allowed the Lady Patriots to gain enough headway to keep the Lady Jaguars at bay.
Recovering from a sprain she suffered in the first set, Tiangco’s defensive presence at the left side saw the Lady Patriots pulling away from an 8-all deadlock and taking the win, 15-9, in a tightly-fought contest that took 106 minutes to complete.
“Nakatulong iyung pagbalik ni Monique sa laro. Nadepensahang mabuti ang harap,” said Lady Patriots coach Darwin Campana.
The Lady Patriots barged to the finals after defeating PATTS College of Aeronautics, 25-12, 25-14, 25-10, last Monday.
The Lady Jaguars meanwhile, turned back the Rizal Technological University Lady Thunder on their own home turf, 25-22, 27-25, 23-25, 25-15, to arrange a showdown with the Lady Patriots.
