EMILIO Aguinaldo College cruised to the semifinals of the 88th NCAA women’s volleyball tournament with a straight sets win over Lyceum of the Philippines on Friday at The Arena in San Juan.
Charmille Belleza came through with 14 points, while Arianna May Angustia chipped in 10 from 10 attacks and three service aces in the Lady Generals’ 27-25, 25-20, 25-19 win.
The Lady Generals became the first team to advance to the semifinals – their third straight Final Four stint – and remain on top of the standings with a 7-1 (win-loss) record.
Emilio Aguinaldo had more blocks than Lyceum, 4-1, and service aces, 10-1.
Gian Carla Benedicto finished with 12 markers for the Lady Pirates, who absorbed their sixth loss in eight games this season.
College of St. Benilde defeated San Beda in the day’s other match, 21-25, 27-25, 25-23.
Jannine Navarro and Rossan Fajardo finished with 16 points apiece, while Maureen Veronas added 10 and Djanel Cheng had 22 excellent digs for the Lady Blazers, who climbed to fifth spot with their fourth win in six outings.
Frances Molina who came up with a season high 31 markers – 25 of them from attacks - three block points and three service aces in leading San Beda (5-3).
