ADAMSON University downed San Sebastian College, 25-21, 25-20, 23-25, 25-20, on Thursday to secure at least a playoff for a semifinal spot in the 10th Shakey's V-League First Conference at the Arena in San Juan.
Guest player Angela Benting produced 21 points, including the game winning kill, for the Lady Falcons. Bhebs Pineda added 19, while Pau Soriano and guest player Mylene Paat contributed 16 and 10, respectively.
Adamson is now 2-0 in the quarterfinals and Lady Falcons gear up for a crucial match against University of Santo Tomas on Sunday.
"Malapit na kami sa semis pero kailangan muna namin mag prepare para sa UST," said Adamson coach Sherwin Meneses.
San Sebastian, capitalized on Adamson's net errors in the third set to extend the match, but Benting powered the Lady Falcons in the fourth set with back-to-back attacks to put up a four-point lead, 17-13.
"Ang sabi ko lang sa kanila 'wag sila ma-iintimidate sa mga palo nina Bualee at (Suzanne) Roces," said Meneses.
Adamson registered 15 blocks and six service aces against San Sebastian's six blocks and two service aces.
Bualee finished with 25 markers, from 23 spikes, one block and one service ace, while rookie Gretchel Soltones came away with 15 points and guest player Suzanne Roces had 12 for SSC, which holds a 0-2 record in the quarterfinals.
The teams’ wins and losses against their groupmates in the eliminations reflect on the quarterfinal standings. Thus, Adamson now has a 2-0 quarterfinal mark, counting the win over Perpetual in the eliminations.
San Sebastian is now also 0-2, including the defeat to UST in the eliminations.
