ADAMSON gained a shot at a twice-to-beat edge in the UAAP women’s volleyball Final Four after defeating Far Eastern University in five thrilling sets, 22-25, 25-17, 15-25, 25-18, 15-13, Sunday night at The Arena in San Juan.
Shiela Pineda and Luisa Zapanta combined and scored the final three points of the deciding set to the Lady Falcons’ eighth victory in 12 outings.
Following the win, Adamson jumped to solo third behind Ateneo (9-4) and defending champion La Salle.
But closely trailing the Lady Falcons’ path are University of Santo Tomas at fourth with a 7-5 (win-loss) slate.
“Masipag talaga ang FEU, mabuti na lang at natapatan naming `yung sipag nila,” said Adamson coach Sherwin Meneses. “Mabuti at mataas ang kumpiyansa ni Bhebs (Pineda) sa service at sa palo.
The Lady Falcons also capitalized on the 39 errors of FEU.
“Napaka-importante sa amin ang panalo. Puwede pa kami sa Top 2,” added Meneses
FEU meanwhile, is tied with National University for fifth to sixth place with an even 6-6 card.
Pineda had 20 points for the Lady Falcons and broke a tight 13-13 deadlock with an ace, before Zapanda, who added 16 markers, scored on a kill for the match.
FEU led 13-12, when Pineda tied the match up with a kill, followed by her go-ahead ace.
Rosemarie Vargas came away with 24 markers from 19 spikes, two blocks, and three service aces, while Wenneth Eulalio contributed 19 from 15 spikes, one block, and three service aces for FEU. With reports from Mei-Lin Lozada
