SCHOOL rivalries took a backseat for former La Salle cager LA Revilla and Ateneo volleyball player Denden Lazaro after it was revealed over the weekend that the two are now a couple.

Social media went abuzz about the unlikely match between UAAP heroes of the rival schools after Revilla took to Twitter to say that he was going to ask someone to be his girlfriend.

He wrote: “Today im gonna do something i have never done in my life! Ask a girl to be my girlfriend!"

Revilla, who was drafted by GlobalPort in the PBA but was left unsigned, later tweeted that the girl said yes without revealing her identity. It was believed, however, that the girl is Lazaro, the Lady Eagles' popular libero.

Interestingly, the relationship blossomed just weeks after Lazaro and the Lady Eagles won their first-ever UAAP women’s volleyball crown by overcoming the thrice-to-beat advantage of archrival De La Salle, where Revilla played for the men’s basketball squad that reigned as champion last season.

Lazaro was elusive when Spin.ph caught up with her, politely declining to answer questions about the status of her relationship with the former La Salle hero.

The pretty libero also played down suggestions that the former La Salle point guard was rooting for her during the epic UAAP women’s volleyball championship series against the DLSU Lady Spikers.

“I don’t know,” Lazaro said on Monday. “Pero he was also there to support La Salle.”

Nevertheless, several sources told Spin.ph that Revilla was present during the Lady Eagles’ victory party following their stunning UAAP conquest to celebrate with Lazaro.

Fittingly enough, both Lazaro and Revilla are coming off seasons to remember in the UAAP.

Revilla gave stability to the point guard position and played his best games in the playoffs when the Green Archers beat University of Santo Tomas' Tigers for the UAAP championsip.

Lazaro, meanwhile, overcame an ankle injury to play a major role in the Lady Eagles' dream run in the playoffs, which also included victories over Adamson and the twice-to-beat National University Lady Bulldogs.
