ATENEO and National University try to stay close to three-time champion De La Salle when they take on separate opponents Saturday as the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament resumes at The Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Eagles battle winless University of the Philippines at 2 p.m., while the Lady Bulldogs collide with inconsistent University of Santo Tomas two hours later.

After losing their opening game against NU, the Lady Eagles went on and won their next three games to gain a piece of second place going to the two-week Christmas break.

Behind sisters Dindin and Jaja Santiago, the Lady Bulldogs are currently tied with the Lady Eagles at 3-1 - just behind La Salle which is the lone unbeaten team in the tournament at 4-0 and has yet to drop a set this season.

Veterans Alyssa Valdez, Amy Ahomiro, and libero Denden Lazaro will lead the way for the Lady Eagles, who are also banking to get the best from rookie Jia Morado’s playmaking.

The Lady Maroons are still looking for their first win under new coach Jerry Yee as they are coming off a 9-25, 21-25, 19-25 loss to the Lady Spikers last December 15.

UP is at 0-4 alongside University of the East for a share of last place in the standings.

The Tigresses are hoping to open the New Year with a bang, but need to find ways to neutralize the towering presence of  the Santiago sisters.

Incidentally, Dindin is a product of UST high school along with Valdez and La Salle's Kim Fajardo.

The Tigresses are tied with the Lady Tamaraws and the Lady Falcons in fourth place with even 2-2 slates.
