ATENEO bounced back from an opening-day defeat as it downed Philippine Navy 25-11, 25-21, 25-19 in the Shakey’s V-League Open Conference on Tuesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Fille Cainglet, 2011 first conference Most Improved Player, led the Lady Eagles with 17 points as the Katipunan-based squad led most of the way and handed the Lady Sailors their second loss.
“Good thing we’re able to bounce back from our loss last time,” said Ateneo coach Parley Tupaz.
First Conference Finals MVP Alyssa Valdez and Dzi Gervacio contributed 12 and 10 points, respectively, for Ateneo.
Ateneo, playing without an import this conference in preparation for the UAAP tournament next semester, evened its record to 1-1 after bowing to Sandugo San Sebastian last Sunday.
“They really are a strong team. “They have (Jang) Bualee, (Su) Roces and (Kaensing (Utaiwan) and coach Roger (Gorayeb),” said Tupaz of Sandugo.
Kiteh Rosales made seven points for the still winless Philippine Navy.
