Roger Gorayeb confident nine-member SSC squad still a force to be reckoned with in NCAA women's volley

COACH Roger Gorayeb is confident San Sebastian can challenge for the title with a nine-member squad as the 93rd NCAA volleyball tournament opens on Thursday at the Filoil Arena in San Juan City.

Gorayeb will lean on veterans Alyssa Eroa, Vira May Guillema, Joyce Sta. Rita and Dangie Encarnacion and hopes everyone will stay healthy.

“We’re still a fighting team but we have to avoid injuries,” said Gorayeb.

The SSC squad suffered a meltdown against Arellano in last season’s finals after sweeping the eliminations. Gorayeb says they have put the loss behind them and now focus on the new campaign, beginning with the match against Emilio Aguinaldo College at 12 p.m.

“That’s already a thing of the past and we’re already looking at the future,” he said. “In fact, after this year, we have four or five recruits coming in and we expect them to really make a significant impact on the team right away.”
