ARELLANO University secured its fifth consecutive semifinals appearance after it bested Lyceum of the Philippines University, 25-23, 25-23, 25-20, in the NCAA Season 92 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.

Jovielyn Prado finished with 12 points and nine excellent receptions for the Lady Chiefs, who booked their seventh straight win and joined early semifinalist San Sebastian College.

AU skipper Rialen Sante chipped in nine markers, while Andrea Marzan added eight points as the Lady Chiefs moved closer to a Final Four twice-to-beat advantage.

In case SSC-R sweeps its last two games against LPU and defending champion College of St. Benilde, the Lady Chiefs’ next target is the no. 2 spot with its twice-to-beat advantage in a stepladder format.

“Papalapit na kami nang papalapit (sa goal namin) basta lagi ko lang sinasabi sa team ko na hayaan n’yo na ang Baste na mag-no. 1 na sila, ang importante ay makuha natin ang advantage ng top two,” said Arellano coach Obet Javier.

“Lagi kong sinasabi na kahit nananalo tayo ‘yung pursige natin dapat nandoon pa rin, ‘di tayo pwedeng mag-relax,” he added.

Arellano will end its elimination round against Perpetual Help on January 25.

Lyceum dropped to 5-3 win-loss record but still remain in hunt for the Final Four seat.

Skipper Cherilyn Sindayen and Czarina Orros scored 11 points apiece, while Christine Miralles and Monica Sevilla added 10 markers each for the Intramuros-based squad.

Meanwhile, in men’s play, Arellano University secured at least a playoff for a semifinals spot after a 25-22, 25-16, 25-27, 25-19 win over the Lyceum University of the Philippines.
