DEFENDING champion Arellano University tightened its grip on the top spot, beating Jose Rizal University, 25-11, 22-25, 25-18, 25-16, in the NCAA Season 93 women’s volleyball tournament on Tuesday at The Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Chiefs remained unscathed in four matches.

“I’m happy that we won but I’m still concerned on some issues like our reception,” said Arellano coach Obet Javier.

The champion coach says focus will now be on the match on Sunday against Lyceum but admits eyeing a sweep of the eliminations.

“We’re targeting it (sweep) but we’d also like to take it one game at a time starting with LPU,” he said.

AU setter Rhea Ramirez had 45 excellent sets and five players reached double figures.

Regine Arocha led the way for the Lady Chiefs with 20 points, Jovielyn Prado added 17, skipper Mary Anne Esguerra had 12, Necole Euben chipped in 11 and Andrea Marzan contributed 10.
